First Day of Lent
About 15 minutes after my last post.
Ok, this will not be a habit. I found on Facebook (well, where do YOU get your news?) an article by Mother Jones on the estrogen toxicity of BPA and TPP in plastics.
http://m.motherjones.com/environment/2014/03/tritan-certichem-eastman-bpa-free-plastic-safe
The article is disturbing to say the least. I quite literally walked straight to my cupboard and threw out all of our plastic cups. But what of the straws? The leftover bowls? ... Those too. My kids are going to hate me. This does not seem like an auspicious beginning.
Why care?
Because if I have knowledge of a poison in my home, I have the responsibility to do all I can to remove it from my family's contact. I've lived in lead houses--I get it, that you can't always get rid of it. But you can mitigate contact as best you can. Out you go water bottles. See you later, sippy cups.
Or from a more biblical standpoint, if I am a steward of the earth, a tiller of the garden, and I know that this substance will make my plants grow poorly, will cause disease in my animals, I'm not going to use it. I'm going to put it far away. But a question for the future then becomes, do you do anything to stop the creation of it?
I will say though, I don't think I've got enough coffee mugs to make breakfast happen.
